Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, FPGA Based Active Camera Stabilization for a Small Satellite - Designing a Digital Control(2024-03-04); ; ; ; We investigate how an active control can stabilize a satellite's on-board camera in an inexpensive way, disturbed by micro-vibrations coming from the reaction wheels of the Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS), and maybe also disturbed by its orbital movement. In particular, in this project we investigate how to design the digital part of the control. We use an active control running in the FPGA of a PYNQ-Z2 board. The control is a PID controller, adjusted experimentally. It turns out that obviously it will be feasible to implement the digital part in this way. We did not have the time and human resources for a complete implementation of the digital part. But all digital components have either been implemented or at least shown to be implementable. The mechanical part of a test bed was provided to us by the VIBES project; we didn't intend to work on it. Nevertheless, we conceived several improvements, and we implemented a few of them. Finally, we identify in detail the work that needs to be done, both on the digital part and on the mechanical part, such that we can conduct an experimental proof that the control indeed reduces micro-vibrations as intended.Bericht333 218 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Bericht114 46 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Enabling Neural Network Edge Computing on a Small Robot VehicleWe report on experiences with optimizations that enable neural network edge computing on a small robot vehicle, which serves as a proxy for an autonomous robotic space craft. We realize a visual object recognition task using a neural network on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) with data processing resources as limited as those of an FPGA suitable for space. We use a quantized neural network nicely matching the properties of an FPGA. The restrictions of the small FPGA require us to sequentialize the processing partially. We employ input frame tiling for this. It allows us to keep the entire neural network on-chip. Furthermore, we split up the visual object recognition task into two stages, using two separate neural networks. The first stage identifies the region of interest approximately, using large and thus few tiles. The second stage looks closely at the single tile containing the region of interest; thus being not that time critical.Wissenschaftlicher Artikel102 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Bericht149 57 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, A Survey of Time and Space Partitioning for Space Avionics(2017)We present a survey of the current state of the reseach on time and space partitioning for space avionics. The availability of ever more powerful computers allows to assign many control tasks to a single computer easily, in principle. But in its naive form, this would mean too much effort and thus cost for demonstrating dependability. For aircraft, there is already an approach to solve this problem, the Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) architecture. For spacecraft, the basic problem is similar. But in detail, the setting is different, though. This report compiles a survey and identifies relevant research challenges. Based on some of them, we propose to design a multi-core processor architecture that avoids fundamental problems of the current architectures with respect to time partitioning, and that can be used in the space domain.Bericht437 148 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Maintaining Families of Rigorous Requirements for Embedded Software SystemsThe first part of this book introduces to families of rigorous software requirements, and how to organize them into requirements modules. A family of requirements must be organized rather differently than the requirements for a single system. We start with the information hiding principle and develop our notion of requirements module from it. We then add this concept to a current approach. Our notion of requirements module allows us to understand some current problems better, and also to propose solutions. The second part of this book looks at one of the requirements modules in more detail, which is the user interface requirements module. We look at how the requirements for the user interface can be encapsulated. We also make a link back to one kind of the current maintenance problems, which are the "feature interaction" problems. We view these problems from the perspective of human-computer interaction. This gives us interesting new means for reducing them.Buch1093 169
