Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Supply Chain Greenhouse Gas Management under Emission Trading(2016-12-06); ; ; To curb global warming man has to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) created to the atmosphere by human activities, and it cannot neglect the efforts of corporate communities. Indeed, companiesa direct emissions are dwarfed by supply chain GHGs from an industry sector. No matter to prepare for future environmental regulations or to improve competitive advantages, companies are realizing that they have to reduce and mitigate GHGs from the supply chain perspective. Emission trading (also called cap and trade) is one of market-based instruments to reduce GHGs released from industrial areas. The Paris agreement in 2015 has announced that emission trading plays an essential role in forming part of international climate action to achieve national emission reduction targets. Moreover, due to offering flexibility in choosing compliance levers to the targeted firms or industries emission trading is considered by forward-thinking communities as one effective measure to manage supply chain GHGs. With optimization models, literatures have quantified the impacts of emission trading on the supply chain performance by incorporating the emission cost. Their results show that emission trading is cost-effective to reduce supply chain GHGs. However, rare work addresses how emission trading could be employed in the context of supply chain and what problems would the implementation processes encounter from business and political perspectives. To fill in this research gap, this paper presents one conceptual study as well as one case study. Firstly, it proposes the concept a supply chain emission tradinga to describe the application of emission trading in the context of supply chain and provides three programs to realize the application: supply chain permit trading program, supply chain credit trading program, and supply chain offset trading program. Secondly, this paper conducts one case study so as to quantify and compare the cost-effectiveness of each program. At last, this paper discusses the challenges and opportunities related to implementing each program, and it demonstrates supply chain knowledge management concerning GHGs reduction under emission trading. The results of this paper indicate that supply chain permit trading program is the most cost-effective one among the three to reduce the same amount of supply chain GHGs. Supply chain credit and offset programs are including additionally the cost of administration for emission reduction projects. All three programs allow the transfers of emission reduction units within the supply chain. Supply chain permit trading program emphasizes the supply chain collaboration in meeting the supply chain GHGs reduction target while the other two programs assign the focal company in the supply chain to be responsible for the supply chain GHGs. Implementing supply chain permit trading program is challenged by including the Scope 3 emissions of the focal company into emission trading scheme (ETS) and requires one cost/benefit allocation method among supply chain partners. The other two programs are comparatively easier to be implemented since they can directly employ the experiences of ETS and credit projects. This paper is believed to be one leading edge in proposing one conceptual initiative connecting supply chain GHGs management to the emission trading policy, and in addressing supply chain GHGs management with emission trading from both quantitative and qualitative aspects. It provides insights for both business managers and policy-makers that are concerned with reducing supply chain GHGs.Dissertation590 590 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises related to their dynamic suppy chain flexibilitiesDuring the last two decades, the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has called the attention of policymakers, practitioners, and scholars due to their role in the economic growth and job creation in their nations. However, due to the complexity and uncertainty of international environments, internationalization has become a high-risk strategy to be embraced. In contrast, flexibility is one of the largest recognized capabilities of SMEs which has been used by these firms to overcome their lack of resources and poor capabilities. This capability leads to a closer link to customers and suppliers allowing at the same time a faster response to both sides. In addition, SMEs need to adopt a network orientation to cope with the nowadays supply-chain competitive scenario. Hence, manufacturing SMEs require a sustainable competitive advantage to enhance their internationalization considering an integrative perspective. This paper addresses this gap by providing an integrative model to investigate the implementation of supply chain flexibility (SCF) to sustain SMEs internationalization by adopting a multi-disciplinary perspective. Three areas of study are included in this paper, i.e. SMEs internationalization, SCF, and logistics capabilities. The paper is among the first on providing an understanding of the relationships between these areas and their impact on manufacturing SMEs internationalization process. It also provides critical elements to support manufacturing SMEs internationalization in their decision-making process with respect to SCF as a source of sustainable competitive advantage.Dissertation591 239 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Sustainable Freight Village Concepts for Agricultural Products Logistics - A Knowledge Management-oriented Study(2013-05-27); ; ; Freight villages (FVs) are logistics phenomenon with broad economic, environmental, and social consequences. This research extends sustainability in the context of FVs to twofold meanings. This includes the sustainable development of FVs, and the sustainability contributions they created. China has showed a more recent but quicker story in developing FVs. Nevertheless, a number of problems and limits exist. Taking China as research background, this research consists of theoretical explorations, status quo analysis, and practical applications in agricultural products logistics (APL). This research proposes that knowledge management (KM) is the most desirable option to reach sustainable values of FVs. The status quo analysis examines the adaption of FVs to China s current logistics situation. It identifies several orientations for the next development step of FVs. To cope with the pervasive problems during FV planning stage, this research adopts sense-making KM approach to guide a systematic planning process including sense making, knowledge creation, and decision making. In order to achieve a high sustainability rating, this research uses KM cycle model to generate synergies among major stakeholders of FVs. Moreover, it proposes a roadmap for organizing KM process so as to build sustainability capability. Three key elements for the roadmap are identified: human ability, stakeholder engagement, and information system. This research focuses on the application of sustainable FV concepts for agricultural products logistics (APL). It deals with issues affecting city logistics and agricultural products (agri-products) supply in China. This can make best use of FV functions from a sustainability perspective. Agri-FV is proposed to bring professional logistics facilities and services, efficient distribution of agri-products, and information-based operations. An integrated APL system is structured consisting of farmers cooperatives, chain stores, and agri-FVs. In this system, agri-FV plays an important role in levering sustainability outcomes. Furthermore, KM approaches are applied to agri-FV project planning and operations, meanwhile considering the characteristics of agri-products and APL.Dissertation707 269 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Nachhaltigkeitsorientierte Analyse von Wertschöpfungsnetzwerken am Beispiel Kameruns: Ein Beitrag zur nachhaltigen Integration Kameruns in die WeltwirtschaftThe present work deals with the issue of business logistic and production management. This topic is of great interest in the context of discussions on sustainable strategies of globally acting enterprises or enterprise networks as well as states and regional authorities. It is a rethinking of value added networks and the assignment of supply chain processes, for example in the framework of a distributed production to geographical locations. The choice of Cameroon as study area is justified on the one hand by its geographical location, on the other hand by its great potential of raw materials and despite or even because of its characteristics as a developing Country. The work is divided into seven chapters and includes an extensive list of references. The information basis necessary for this work was obtained, in addition to literature review, through own interviews in Germany and in Cameroon as well as temporary collaboration in German-Cameroonian DAAD-Project for the intensification of logistic understanding and logistic education in Cameroon. This was followed by the comparative analysis in order to make a correlation between different cases and circumstances, and subsequently to propose a solution. In addition, a SWOT analysis was performed. It is an evaluation method for detecting strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks. Finally, models were developed in order to solve the problem in the reality with illustrations. In the context of current scientific discussion in the operational logistics and transportation industry as well as the production management under consideration of the relevance of the sustainability-related inclusions of developing countries in international value added networks, four essential results were worked out. These results are related to a sustainability-driven redesign of the value chains for a sustainable integration into the world economy of a developing country as Cameroon. Four action recommendations are derived from these results for increasing the production and regional service attractiveness. Particularly noteworthy are the considerations for sustainability-driven redesign of the value chains in the agra-tech sector and in the high-tech sector. In the context of a Cameroonian proverb that says: "When elephants fight against hippopotamus, small animals should worry for their lives!", the entire work appears as a new analysis of business logistics, transport and production industry, taking into account the importance of sustainability with the inclusion of developing countries in international value-added networks.Dissertation464 464 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Knowledge Integrated Business Process Management for Third Party Logistics Companies(2013-08-06); ; ; The growing importance of logistics as well as the increasing dynamic complexity of markets, technologies, and customer needs has brought great challenges to logistics. In order to focus on their core competency in such a competitive environment, more and more companies have outsourced a part or the entirety of the logistics process to third party logistics (3PL) service providers. 3PL has played a crucial role in managing logistics processes within supply chain management. Logistics processes require and supply various types of knowledge for planning, developing, operating, controlling and improving business processes. Therefore, in the current knowledge era, knowledge integrated business process management (KIBPM) is of significant importance for 3PL. This work applies KIBPM in 3PL from both a theoretical and practical perspective. The methodology for this study is a combination of literature and primary source research. From the theoretical perspective, it reviews the related literature on knowledge, KM, KIBPM and 3PL. It next analyzes application potentials as well as basic theories of KIBPM in 3PL, and proposes a framework for application. Furthermore, it studies the issues, knowledge sources and content, as well as KM approaches from the strategic and operational perspectives. In particular, it discusses the dynamics, logistics networks, business process networks and tacit knowledge sharing in 3PL. From the practical perspective, a case study of a leading 3PL provider demonstrates the drivers, practices and approaches of KIBPM application. The case study is based on in-depth interviews and extensive access to the secondary data of the firm. It analyzes the core business processes, the process knowledge and key activities of KM in the formulation of business strategy and the operation of business processes in contract logistics. In addition, it applies the proposed framework in this case. Furthermore, it discusses the findings from the literature and case study that relate to the research questions, compares the differences and similarities of KM in 3PL between theory and practice, and puts forward some research and managerial implications. This study has come to the conclusion that it is more effective and efficient to integrate KM in business processes. Knowledge of market, customer requirements, partners, and competitors and collaborative KM in the logistics networks are essential when choosing competitive strategies, process designs and development strategies for business. 3PL needs dynamic capabilities to sustain competitive advantage through KM. In operation, knowledge related business procedures and domains, as well as the results in project management of warehousing, intermodal transport and cooperation between geographic networks, have considerable value for business process execution, evaluation and improvement. 3PL motivates tacit knowledge sharing and effective knowledge acquisition, production, warehousing, distribution and application with a trusting organizational culture, process oriented structure, appropriate technology, and incentive measures. However, while KM is a tool for improving the competency and performance for the organization, learning capability is more important to keeping sustainable competitive advantage in the long term for 3PL. The application of KIBPM in 3PL supports business process management at both the strategic and operational levels. It especially contributes to business development, collaborative projects, intermodal transport, and logistics service improvement.Dissertation711 303
