Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Social Work Practice Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Europe: A Comparison of Qualitative Analyses of Conditions, Responses, and Innovations from Twelve CountriesThis chapter aims to identify the main impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on social work practice education across 12 countries in Europe. The basis for this reflection is a qualitative study that was carried out among social work scholars with direct relations to social work practice education in their countries. Practice education in social work is regarded as essential for supporting the professional socialization required to turn social work students into social work professionals. As such, forms of practice education largely depend on the institutionalization of the social work profession in particular countries. Various political and societal responses to the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly impacted social work education around Europe, particularly in practice education. Hence, we strived to understand how (i) practice education is embedded in diverse European countries, (ii) how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected practice education, and (iii) what lessons we can learn from the diverse responses in practice education to the COVID-19 pandemic. In collaboration with social work academics from different countries, we co-produced expert background reports from each country. Then, we applied content analysis and the limit type method to further analyze these reports. Limit types enable the description of extreme points on the boundary of a constructed phenomenon. However, our analysis also identified various trends between the extreme points of the identified phenomena. In our findings, we describe an array of country-specific (i) conditions and characteristics of practice education, (ii) effects of COVID-19 responses on practice education, and (iii) inspiring examples for innovation in practice education in social work.Wissenschaftlicher Artikel43 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Social Work Practice Education and the Pandemic: An IntroductionAs an introductory chapter of a corresponding edited volume, this text describes the book’s main background and conceptual considerations and the book chapters’ main content. The starting point of the chapter is the COVID-19 pandemic and its long-term consequences, especially its general impacts on social work and social work practice education. Subsequently, the general design, the key concepts, and the main contexts of the book are characterized to provide a first understanding of the matter. After these general considerations, the chapter then describes the book’s three main parts and its fifteen chapters’ content. Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, The Current and Future Challenges of Social Work Practice Education: A Summarizing View Within a Global ApproachThis final chapter regards and focuses on the current global challenges of social work practice education in the light of the new Global Standards of Social Work Education and Training approved by the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) in 2020. As a starting point, it presents the main outlines of this key reference document for social work education in different parts of the world. The heterogeneities of contexts and practice are so wide that identifying and converging towards a common core of social work education is a real challenge. The IASSW and the IFSW have tackled this complexity in their efforts to align worldwide social work education programs to a common core through the Global Standards of Social Work Education and Training. In this chapter, the standards are first extensively presented, especially regarding social work practice education, and then used to identify the most relevant trends of social work practice education and the challenges it needs to address. Within the framework of the Global Standards of Social Work, the chapter then collects and assembles the main results, findings and experiences from the SWooPEd research project and the previous chapters of this book. As a final chapter, it provides a brief overview of the main findings and the key learning points for current and future social work practice education. Accordingly, this chapter will create a concluding summary of the design of social work practice education along the Global Standards of Social Work Education and Training and the integration of innovative solutions and learning results that arise out of the pandemic. Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Social Work Practice Education Beyond the PandemicThis book offers unprecedented knowledge about how social work practice education has been restructured under the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and how the adaptations and innovations generated during this time have become a supplementary tool of current social work education worldwide. Based on the European research project "SWooPEd – Social Work Practice Education in Times of Pandemics, and Beyond. Continuities, Changes and Innovations in Europe", this contributed volume provides a unique international perspective from different European countries that are accomplished through insights from authors in other continents. The book addresses topics through a 'glocal' approach, using a comparative perspective and a multi-method design. It adopts the IASSW-IFSW "Global Standards for Social Work Education and Training", as well as considers the heterogeneity of national social work education systems in Europe, North America, Africa, and the Asia and Pacific region. The volume's contents are organized in three sections: In Part I, the authors compare the structures and designs of social work practice education programs and the reactions of the schools of social work to the COVID-19-related restrictive measures on a European level. In Part II, the authors provide in-depth analyses on how the pandemic experimentations have been re-adapted and used in some European countries and which innovations and findings were identified that could be integrated now and in the context of other crises. In Part III, the authors contextualize these experiences and display the paths and analyses from schools in non-European countries, as well as finally identify the crucial current challenges and opportunities for social work practice education at a global level. Social Work Practice Education Beyond the Pandemic is a key reference for the global community of social work education including academics, educators, field instructors, practitioners, and students. It provides an inspiring source for all the innovators in the field of higher education in social work and highlights how social work practice education can be designed in a more resilient and sustainable way that directs social work practice education into the future.Buch37
