    Design and evaluation of a freeform lens-array for a structured light illumination
    In illumination applications, freeform lens design starts by modeling the light source intensity, then determining the lens surface. Therefore, any change in the source intensity distribution directly impacts the created illuminance. Freeform lens-array could reduce the dependency between the illuminance pattern and the source intensity distribution. It divides the light source energy into separate beams; each creates the same illuminance pattern. All separated beams are superimposed at a distant target to generate the final illuminance pattern. This paper explains the design procedures of a freeform lens-array in detail, simulates the optical performance, and experimentally evaluates the working principle. Experiments evaluate using different light sources and using a variable illuminated aperture. Moreover, simulations compare the freeform lens-array to a traditional freeform lens.

    Model-based reconstruction of reflective freeform surfaces
    Optical elements with freeform surfaces open new degrees of freedom in the design of optical systems. Reliable measurement of shape is challenging, especially in case of strongly curved ones. A realization of deflectometry, Experimental Ray Tracing (ERT), has proven to measure those surfaces with high accuracy. A crucial step is integration of measured gradients from sampled and noisy data. A model based method for surface reconstruction based on Radial Basis Functions (RBF) using non-linear optimization is presented and discussed. Measurement of freeforms and results are presented and discussed.

    Recht der Informationssicherheit: BSIG, EU Cybersecurity Act, DS-GVO. Kommentar
    Das Recht der Informationssicherheit hat in den letzten Jahren erheblich an Relevanz gewonnen. Dabei stellt es eine außerordentlich komplexe Materie nicht nur in juristischer Hinsicht dar. Die Herausforderungen an die Rechtsanwenderinnen und Rechtsanwender sind zahlreich: es fehlt an einer einheitlichen und umfassenden kodifizierten Regelung des Rechtsgebiets, begleitende Literatur der vielfach neuen Regelungen ist bislang rar gesät und im Rahmen der compliance- und praxisgerechten Umsetzung der Vorschriften müssen intensive Überschneidung mit technisch organisatorischen Anforderungen berücksichtigt werden. Hinzu kommt die zunehmende Vielfalt an Rechtsvorschriften mit einem (nicht immer klar ersichtlichen) Bezug zur Informationssicherheit, die durch den deutschen und den europäischen Gesetzgeber erlassen wurden und werden. Deshalb erscheint dieser Kommentar, der sich intensiv und interdisziplinär mit den aktuellen Rechtsgrundlagen der Informationssicherheit in Deutschland und in Europa befasst. Als erster Kommentar dieser Art auf dem Buchmarkt bietet er eine systematische Aufschlüsselung der relevanten Gesetze und Rechtsvorschriften, stellt kompakt und praxisnah dar, welche Anforderungen diese vermitteln, und wie sie interessengerecht umzusetzen sind.

    Designing User-Guidance for eXtendend Reality Interfaces in Industrial Environments
    (Springer International Publishing, 2023) ;
    Modern industrial environments evolve from collections of physical machines into networked extended reality environments, where in addition to the physical machines digital content becomes increasingly significant. Examples of such digital content include not only the necessary information to control the production, but also digital instructions and product information, information derived from embedded sensors or predictive models, as wells as digital twins of products, machines and entire factories. This means that user interface designers in such environments have to design interfaces that allow access to and interaction with both the virtual and physical aspects. The design of user interfaces for such eXtendend Reality (XR) environments faces a number of challenges including the change of the implementation platform from a “standardized” PC GUI to I/O devices and paradigms that are suitable for XR. Examples include mobile and wearable devices as well as virtual and augmented reality. There is still a lack of standards and best-practices regarding the design of XR interfaces, especially when interaction and data visualization techniques are required to support work across different platforms. This chapter focuses on guidance techniques that help users navigate the complex information and interaction tasks in XR environments, as this is an area for which little information is currently available. The chapter explains why different forms of user guidance are required in XR environments, why these pose a challenge for user interface designers, and presents techniques that can be used to aid the design process.

    Während der Kaltumformung von Blechwerkstoffen kommt es zu einem Temperaturanstieg in der Umformzone. Dieser resultiert neben Reibung hauptsächlich aus der Umwandlung plastischer Umformarbeit in Wärme. Die dabei auftretenden Temperaturen zeigen signifikante Auswirkungen auf den jeweiligen Fertigungsprozess, wie z.B. die Verschleißentwicklung des Werkzeuges oder das Umformverhalten des Blechwerkstoffes. Folglich ist die Kenntnis der auftretenden Temperaturen und deren Abhängigkeit von eingestellten Prozessparametern von hoher Bedeutung. Im Rahmen dieser Untersuchung wurde der Vergütungsstahl C45LC unter variierenden Prozessparametern durchgesetzt bzw. schergeschnitten. Aufgrund hoher Flächenpressungen und Umformgrade wurden diese Fertigungsverfahren verwendet, da hier hohe Temperaturen entstehen. Variiert wurden hierbei sowohl der Durchsetzspalt als auch die Stempelgeschwindigkeit. Die dabei entstehenden Temperaturen wurden während des Prozesses instantan mit einem Werkzeug-Werkstück-Thermoelement gemessen. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einen signifikanten Einfluss der Prozessparameter auf die ermittelten Temperaturen.

    Experimental investigation of a virtual planar array for MIMO sonar systems
    In this paper a way to achieve a virtual two-dimensional planar array for sonar systems using the multiple input multiple output (MIMO) principle is presented. The time delay information of a planar array can be used for imaging sonars and allows the localization of scatterers in three-dimensional space. In a conventional single input multiple output (SIMO) sonar, this would be achieved using a single transmitter and a receiver consisting of a planar array of N² hydrophones, arranged as a rectangular N × N matrix. We show through simulations and experiments how a virtual planar array can be formed using a linear receiver array and linear transmitter array. For this, an experimental MIMO sonar system was constructed with a 32-channel receiver and a 12-channel transmitter, which allowed the realization of a virtual 32 × 12 array. The array design is analyzed through experiment in a harbor basin and through simulations, validating the principle of the virtual planar array. In addition to the experimental investigations, in which only a limited number of transmitter channels are available, further simulations with a 32 × 32 array are performed for further MIMO arrangements to highlight strengths and weaknesses in different application areas.

    Enabling IoT Connectivity and Interoperability by Using Automated Gateways
    As an essential part of the Industry 4.0 strategy, the Internet of Things is developing to “Internet of Everything”. The number of interconnected devices and the amount of data produced increases constantly. Various devices are communicating using various protocols, exchanging data using various data formats and connecting to various software applications. In an IoT-Architecture, a gateway is a fundamental component needed for enabling device interoperability. While a great deal of research has already been done on IoT in cloud computing, fog computing, and edge computing, there is still no intensive activity in the field of gateways in particular. Even the basic gateways can act as a proxy between low-end IoT devices and data centres, automated gateways can provide significantly higher functionality to solve the problems of diversity of protocols, data formats and the custom needs of various devices including used applications. This paper presents a concept of an automated gateway dealing with the problems of protocol conversion, device management, middleware abstraction, resource management and traffic optimisation. The gateway is designed as a modular plug-and-play architecture and was evaluated for MQTT, ZigBee, WebSocket and Amazon WebServices. The architecture can be extended by including additional modules to support further protocols and services. Finally, the gateway defines its protocol and translates incoming messages into an optional uniform format, which can be used by the client to enable more complex message flows. Thus, it provides a solid foundation for further development towards standardization of communication interfaces and interoperability of IoT devices.
