Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Kriterien für Wälzlagerstähle für das Induktionshärten(2020-02-04); ; ; Induction hardening of bearing components offers advantages over other hardening techniques like low energy consumption and connected emissions, superior mechanical properties and the use of low alloyed steel grades. The used steel alloy for induction hardening has a pronounced impact on the hardening result. The dissertation aims at identifying a suitable and robust bearing steel for induction hardening. Based on a literature study, potential bearing steels were selected and compared in terms of heat treatment robustness using a dilatometer. Larger hardness of the prior microstructures as well as low alloyed steel grades were shown to reveal a robust hardening result. The rolling contact fatigue performance was evaluated as one important property of bearing steels. Larger carbon contents or as-heat treated hardness showed superior behavior for classical measures of rolling contact fatigue performance, while lower carbon contents led to smaller and less crack appearance. The roles of different alloying elements, prior austenite grains sizes and residual stresses were discussed. A medium carbon steel was identified as a good compromise revealing a robust heat treatment result and good fatigue performance.Dissertation403 236 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Entwicklung von Niederdruck-Carbonitrierprozessen zur Festigkeitssteigerung hochbelasteter Bauteile(2018-04-18); ; ; Low pressure carburizing offers the ability to produce bright-metallic surfaces without unwanted internal oxidation known from carburizing at atmospheric pressure but with lower consumption of hydrocarbon Grä01 . The expected increase in fatigue life of low pressure carburized parts compared to gas-carburized parts could not be achieved due to other side-effects than internal oxidation Cla03 . Case-hardening steels of the grades 18CrNiMo7-6, 20MoCrS4 and 20CrMo4 were tested with different approaches to dilute or even prevent these side-effects. Two types of furnaces were used to derive results, which are instantly applicable in industrial scale production. The first one was set up for research at the IWT in Bremen, Germany (Brand: Ipsen, type: RVTC). The second one is in use in industrial scale production and property of Wegener Härtetechnik GmbH located in Homburg, Germany (Brand: ALD, type: ModulTherm). In this paper the development of process strategies is presented, which exploit the potential of low pressure carburizing that could not be obtained in the past. Additionally, results relevant for operators are presented to show the assignability between the two types of furnaces and to give examples of conditioning and interdependencies in low pressure carbonitriding processes.Dissertation375 132 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Thermogravimetrische Messungen beim Niederdruckaufkohlen als Grundlage für Simulationen(2012-02-01); ; ; The design of carburizing processes for low pressure carburizing is done using diffusion simulation. To embed the precision of the calculations the influencing factors on the carbon transition and diffusion need to be known and modeled. To enhance the models, measurements on the carbon transition during LP-carburization were performed during a model low pressure carburization process using a special thermo balance. The carbon flow depending on temperature, gas type and atmosphere composition, steel grade, surface carbon content and conditions of carbide formation and dissolution were regarded during the experiments. The results were used in a finite differences simulation to model the carbon transition according to the carburizing atmosphere. The materials behavior was accounted using its chemical composition. The simulation was set up as an independent application and the results of the different models used to consider the materials behavior and carbon transfer were evaluated.Dissertation468 214 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Dissertation324 921 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Schmiedegerecht nitrierte Gesenke(2017-08-23); ; ; In order to resist the high loads, the surfaces and boundary areas of forging dies are nitrided. Up to now, there was no proven knowledge about, which processing parameters respectively which nitrided case leads to the best life time of the tools. In the present work, the influence of nitriding and nitrocarburizing with all their variety of nitrided cases on the lifetime and wear of forging dies was investigated. Eight promising treatments were transferred to forging dies, in order to create a number of different nitrided cases. The tools were used in serial production and their lifetime was determined under real conditions. At the lifetime end, critical parts of the tools were metallographical investigated, in order to find out the wear mechanisms. Finally, a recommendation was developed which nitrided case revealed the best results for a given loading condition.Dissertation532 333 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Maximierung der randnahen Druckeigenspannung von Stählen mit Hilfe einer Hochgeschwindigkeits Abschreckanlage(2012-11-28); ; ; The technical progress has the demand of parts, which withstand longer higher loads. This is fulfilled either by an improvement of the material or through an optimization of the manufacturing process. These optimizations are chosen to improve specific properties which enhance the life spans of parts. A classical process of improving the life span is the case hardening. Among other things, the case hardening generates compressive residual stresses near the surface. This compressive residual stresses improves the fatigue strength. By hardening parts with high quenching velocities a great martensitic phase occurs near the surface, before the phase transformation begins in the core. The martensitic transformation expands first the surface than the core, which leads to compressive stresses. The great martensitic phase proportion on the surface withstand the resulting tensile stresses due to the phase transformation in the core and after the quenching remains compressive residual stresses at the surface. The knowledge of the necessary quenching parameters to generate compressive residual stresses at the surface exists only for single parts and materials. The goal of this work is to generalize this knowledge with simulation studies. This objective was realized with a newly developed high velocity water quenching machine. With experiments were verified the nearly correctness of the simulation studies. And with this simulations the influence of different material properties were evaluated. In the last part of this work, the improvement of the life strength due to the high compression was confirmed.Dissertation286 173 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Influence of Carbonitriding Process on Phase Transformation during Case Hardening, Retained Austenite and Residual Stresses(2019-09-13); ; ; The carbonitriding process is a surface hardening technique with an ultimate goal of improving surface hardness, fatigue properties and resistance to wear of highly stressed parts. As opposed to carburizing process which enriches engineering components with carbon atoms only, carbonitriding introduces both carbon and nitrogen atoms in the surface layer. The presence of nitrogen stabilizes austenite and depending on the level of carbon and nitrogen content reached, as high as 70 mass-% of austenite can be retained. The thermal and mechanical stability of such high amount of retained austenite is vital as retained austenite should remain stable to avoid shape and dimensional changes especially in close fittings. Moreover, such high amount of retained austenite affects the nature, magnitudes and distribution of residual stresses which can influence the service properties. In the present work, the influence of carbonitriding process on the phase transformation during case hardening, retained austenite and residual stresses were investigated. In particular, the following points were taken into consideration: (1) characterization of the state after carbonitriding, (2) analysis of the state during and after tempering, (3) investigation of the state after tempering coupled with cryogenic treatment, (4) investigation of the state after thermal stabilization, and (5) investigation of the mechanical stability of carbonitrided samples. Five carbonitriding variants with different carbon and nitrogen contents were considered. The phase compositions and residual stress analysis was carried out using X-ray diffraction. For each variant, the amount of retained austenite was dependent on the level of carbon and nitrogen reached which in turn depends on the carbon and nitrogen potential in the carbonitriding atmosphere. Besides the misfit between the case and the core, the amount and distribution of retained austenite in the case affects the nature, magnitudes and distribution of residual stresses in both retained austenite and martensite phase. The thermal stability of retained austenite and residual stress relaxation during the process of tempering was captured in situ, using a diffractometer equipped with a position sensitive detector with high resolution and a heating system. This study establishes the range of thermal stability of retained austenite and its kinetics of decomposition during continuous heating and isothermal holding. Further, it helped to quantify the magnitudes and kinetics of residual stress relaxation. Analysis of state after cryogenic treatment revealed that indeed tempering prior cryogenic treatment does stabilize retained austenite which then becomes difficult to transform to martensite during cryogenic treatment. The new martensite formed during the cryogenic treatment enhances significantly the compressive residual stresses in the martensite phase. Via shot-peening treatment it could be revealed that retained austenite was mechanically unstable and readily transforms; consequently high compressive residual stresses in both retained austenite and martensite phase are resulting.Dissertation474 288 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Identifikation der verzugsbestimmenden Einflussgrößen beim Austenitisieren am Beispiel von Ringen aus dem Wälzlagerstahl 100Cr6(2011-01-14); ; ; The identification of distortion relevant-factors in an overall process chain in order to describe the distortion behaviour of a regarded component is an important step in the method Distortion Engineering . In this context, the application of design of experiments (DoE) assures a systematic procedure during both experiment and distortion analysis. The distortion behaviour of the examined thin-walled bearing rings was characterised by harmonic analysis in explicit consideration of the direction of the respective shape changes. The change in roundness deviation due to heat treatment is controlled by a variation of the clamping system during machining. Based on the experimental results and additional finite element analysis, this effect is explained by local plastic deformation due to stress relief during heating of the non-uniform machining residual stress state. The variation of the supporting pattern during heat treatment induces a change in roundness and flatness deviation, respectively. The alteration in flatness deviation is also influenced by the heating rate. The distortion mechanism that is responsible for these effects could not be identified in this work. The experimental results provide an indication that creep processes during heat treatment could be an effect regarding distortion, whose importance should not be underestimated.Dissertation593 476 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
A large part of the components used today, for example in gearbox construction, such as gears or bearing components, is adjusted to the stress during operation in a mostly thermochemical heat treatment process (usually gas carburizing). The resulting, mainly martensitic structure has been optimized in recent decades only within relatively narrow limits, especially with regard to increased component reliability and overall cost reduction. Due to increasing scarcity of resources and increasing limitations in terms of size or component weight, the trend in the recent past goes in the direction of increased load capacity or higher power densities. In addition to the use of costly high-alloy and / or high-purity material concepts, the research of novel surface-layer compositions has been brought into focus by mostly thermochemical heat treatment processes (i. e. carbonitriding). Before a possible adoption of these new boundary layer concepts into the industrial practice, however, a series of studies for better assessment and for a better understanding of the material-technical basics and relationships is necessary to assess potentials and risks. Important subgoals are: Detailed characterization and description of today's uncommon surface layer structure Testing and comparing novel heat-treated model samples with the standard to demonstrate the potential of the new heat treatment variants Basic studies on the conversion behavior and the retained austenite stability of the new process variantsDissertation465 289
