Die koreanischen protestantischen Kirchenlieder als Indikator für die Transformation der koreanischen Gesellschaft: Prozesse von Amerikanisierung und Hybridisierung

Abstract

This paper seeks to investigate the cultural identity of the Korean protestant hymns. The korean hymns developed in many aspects with the Americanization process of the society and the church, in the following forms: first, passive acceptance of American culture allowed by the world-wide wave of imperialism, through which one culture could dominate over other cultures as a standard one; secondly, as a result, inevitable cultural change of the society, causing a cultural identity crisis of a country; and thirdly, the rediscovery of self as an active adoption of foreign culture, which has been earned through debate with their own identity awareness in the end leads to coexistence of different cultures.
