The initial focus is on new types of employment, going beyond the standard employment relationship. Based on an international literature review a specification of precarious work is given and indicators to operationalise the concept are presented. Subsequently an overview of the current research evidence regarding the correlation between precarious work and health is given. Using the developed analytical framework of precarious work a questionnaire survey among more than 400 female cleaners addressing the consequences of job insecurity on health was carried out. The results strongly support the hypothesis of a association between insecurity and health. The thesis concludes providing an outlook that derives further requirements for research and praxis based on the presented findings. |
