Other Titles: | Investigations on soil improvement through compost application to three different agricultural sites on Wildeshauser Geest, Germany | Authors: | Hartmann, Ralf | Supervisor: | Venzke, Jörg Friedhelm | 1. Expert: | Venzke, Jörg-Friedhelm | Experts: | Heyser, Wolfgang | Abstract: | In field experiments that took place in 1996 to 2000 different composts were applicated to three pedologically different agricultural sites on Wildeshauser Geest, south of Delmenhorst, North-Western Germany, in order to ameliorate the soils. As many soils display significant nutrient and structural deficiencies, it is reasonable for a long term use of these resources to improve the soil functions by aid of composts that are adapted to the specific demands of the soils. Therefore the potential of various test composts for soil improvement is found out. The initial results and interactions of the practical compost use especially the effects of compost on soil erosion, silting, water holding capacities, and crop harvest are discussed. |
