    Refactoring collections in OCL
    (RWTH Aachen, 2021) ;
    Burgueño, Lola
    ;
    The current OCL 2.4 specification organizes collections in one abstract class, Collection(T), and four concrete subclasses, namely Set(T), Bag(T), Sequence(T), and OrderedSet(T) depending on whether the collection elements are ordered or not, and whether duplicated elements are allowed or not. These four classes provide a clear and useful partition of the whole collections space, covering all relevant aspects. However, the specification of the operations associated with these classes is rather unwieldy and inefficient in the current standard: it contains duplicated descriptions, missing operations and unspecified details. In this paper, we analyze the problems with such specifications, and propose an alternative specification that avoids duplication and missing details based on the introduction of the appropriate intermediate abstract classes that capture the common features of interest of each kind of collection.

    From Object to Class Models: More Steps towards Flexible Modeling (Short Paper)
    This contribution discusses a flexible modeling approach that proposes to develop class diagrams starting from object diagrams. On the one hand, the contribution explains in a general way the benefits of flexible visual modeling by allowing a lively development process through relaxing the formal requirements for artefacts in the work process. On the other hand, the contribution shows a concrete example and explains an implementation in a tool, in particular how to cover whole-part relationships, generalization and an improved handling for association multiplicities. The aim is to give developers the option to let their ideas flow in a free way with few creativity restrictions by a tool. Flexibility may be gained by transitioning in the work process between specific, instance-based visual models and generic, type-based visual models where both kinds of models allow for incompleteness or inconsistency.

    A SWOT analysis of the object constraint language

    The Object Constraint Language (OCL) is a textual language to describe constraints or queries over software models defined by applying the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Using OCL, it is possible to specify, for instance, integrity constraints in the form of class invariants, operation pre-conditions, or post-conditions. This paper presents a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) of OCL, considering both its current state and future perspectives: specification, tool support, applications, competitors, and the community around it. This analysis was the result of the panel discussion at the 20th International Workshop on OCL and Textual Modeling (OCL’21).
