Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Pathways to Yoga - Yoga Pathways : Modern Life Courses and the Search for Meaning in GermanyThis study, by illustrating different life courses of yoga practitioners through an interview-based typology, examines the role yoga plays in the creation of meaning for individuals in modern, western society. The four types the Exerciser, the Explorer, the Self-Helper and the Yogi show that the yoga practice is part of, an alternative to and a reaction against modern life. Combining physical fitness and relaxation with the option of linking it to a larger framework of meaning, it fits perfectly into a society that is increasingly fragmented via the forces of individualization. The way it can be practiced not only facilitates, but possibly fosters modern ways of living. Often alleviating specific problems due to individualization, such as increased stress levels, it becomes an individualized solution to problems due to individualization. Still, there remains a focus on the collective and community, as put forth by the yoga teachings and the atmosphere in the yoga class. As such the yoga practice illustrates the modern life paradox consisting of the trend to break with traditional community life, whilst continuing to search for meaning through a form of belonging.Dissertation615 695 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Zu den Auswirkungen des individuellen Umgangs mit der häuslichen Arbeitsteilung auf die Stabilisierung und Veränderung geschlechtstypischer Arbeitsteilungsmuster(2005-10-28); ; ; This qualitative empirical study investigates the coping strategies partners in married and unmarried couples employ in reaction to stress triggerd by perceived and felt discrapancies over housework.Starting point of the analysis is a theoretical framework that differentiates between three types of housework-ralated behaviour in cohabiting unions, a traditional, an individualistic and a pragmatic one. The emotional component is under the label "affectual" included in this typology. The sample consists of 120 interviews (problem focused interviews (Witzel) of married and unmarried couples with or without children sharing or not sharing one flat.The overall result is that genderd patterns of housework come about not primarily through gender roles but through mechanisms embodied in the individual housework related coping strategies and in the interaction of the partners' strategies on the pair level.Dissertation510 625
