Mobile Usability TestingEin toolbasiertes Vorgehensmodell zum Rapid-Prototyping und Usability-Testing von Mobilen Systemen im originären Benutzungskontext
Mobile systems are indispensable in our daily life. Therefore eà °ective processes are necessary, in order to cope with the increased requirements by the end users and the high cost- and time- pressure. Whereas usability-testing is mostly standardized for stationary systems, mobile systems face new challenges according to their heterogeneity. This dissertation seeks to improve the de- sign and development in order to provide intuitive and innovative mobile systems by strengthen- ing the consideration of the user's requirements as well as the context of use within early stages of the design process. The core contribution is the development and evaluation of a tool-based process-model consisting of a phase-model and an rapid-prototyping- and usability-testing- instrument. It enables a) to develop prototypes and perform usability-tests in early product stages, b) usability-testing within the native context of use and on real devices, and c) to collect valuable data. Additional features are remote observation and simulation in terms of the Wizard-of-Oz- method. The empirical studies confirmed the concept of the tool-based process-model and showed a close connection between rapid-prototyping and usability-testing.

M@X-Guide - ein wissensbasiertes System zur Unterstützung des Informed-Consents und des Shared-Decision-Makings am Beispiel der S3-Leitlinie zum metastasierten Mammakarzinom
In the last 40 years more than 40 S3 guidelines for various medical fields were placed at public disposal by the AWMF alone. Although the guidelines are of high quality, the implementation of these until now has been inadequate due to incomplete contents and faulty implementation measures, therefore the targeted aims (e.g. improvement of the quality of treatment with simultaneous increase of cost-efficiency) cannot be reached and the potential of the guidelines is not fully exploited. The first part of this doctoral thesis examines the role of the guidelines from the viewpoint of the public healthcare system. After that a detail look of the German S3-guideline "Diagnostics, therapy and aftercare of breast cancer" on the treatment of metastatic breast cancer follows, together with a description of the strengths and weaknesses of this specific part of the guideline. The third chapter illuminates the problem from the point of view of information technology. Different approaches for the representation of knowledge in the medical field are examined for their efficiency to represent medical guidelines. This theoretic discussion is put intopractical experience by the implementation of M@X-Guide - the knowledge-based system for the therapy of metastatic breast cancer. The thesis is rounded by a detailed discussion of M@X-Guide, the possibility of supporting the implementation of medical guidelines using knowledge based systems, and the generalization of the findings in the form of a systematicprocess which would allow the construction of such systems on the basis of narrative guidelines.

Constructing the Learning Environment in Classroom Convivial Computer Tools for Higher Education
New education technologies are coming on stream, enabling connectivity among teachers, facilitators and students. Students have to learn how to access Managed Learning Environments each time they move to different course websites. These barriers can hinder the real understanding of the subject matter for a course. This research calls for a rethink of pedagogical process towards blending together commonly used emerging social software and legacy educational tools rather than developing new tools for the classroom. Indeed, a learning tool should fit well to the learning model and philosophy of that course. Three case studies were conducted through different courses in the Digital Media master program and Informatik program at the University of Bremen, Germany. Students worked in small groups to design digital media and learning portal that should make learning more interesting and meaningful for them. At the end, this research proposes the concept of Constructing the Learning Environment in classroom and Convivial Computer Tools for higher education, where students and teachers, via dialogues in the class, can negotiate to deploy a set of selected tools and functions to match their learning needs. It is also to show that a tool with too many functions can cause confusion, rather than enhance effectiveness. To empower collaborative, interactive and personal learning, this work proposes the blended learning and classroom procedures for a convivial selection of educational tools. At the end, our innovative attempt is to bring constructionist learning into the higher education context.
