Abstract:
In recent years ionic liquids (ILs) have gained a broad interest because of their applicability in different fields. However, regarding the hazard assessment of ionic liquids the structural variability represents an almost insurmountable problem as it is impossible to generate a profound knowledge of the effects on man and the environment for every single compound. To overcome this problem a T-SAR (Thinking in terms of Structure Activity Relationships)approach was used to analyse systematically the influence of ionic liquids towards (eco)toxcity and biodegradation. Aim of this study was the design of inherently safer ionic liquids.
