Zusammenfassung
The area described as "Lower Weser realm" ("Unterweserraum"), represents parts of the states of Lower Saxony and Bremen/Bremerhaven between Cloppenburg in the S and Cuxhaven in the N, Wilhelmshaven in the W and Verden in the E. The "Bremen knot" is a complex area in which the NNE-SSW-trending basement lineaments are crossed by WNW-ESE and W-E-trending basement faults. In the same way the post-Zechstein overburden structures (salt domes, inversion structures) straddling the basement faults, trending NNE-SSW, WNW-ESE and W-E grate up in this region. An overview of the litho- and biostratigraphical succession of the basement beneath the Rotliegend and Zechstein salt layers as weIl as that of the overlying Triassic to Tertiary succession is given, based on numerous stratigraphic tables, palaeo-geographical and palaeo-structural maps and subcrop maps. A special chapter deals with the types of structures occurring in the "Lower Weser realrn" and their structural genesis.
