Other Titles: | Thermogravimetrical measurements during low pressure carburization as basis for simulations | Authors: | Steinbacher, Matthias | Supervisor: | Hoffmann, Franz | 1. Expert: | Hoffmann, Franz | Experts: | Schulze, Volker | Abstract: | The design of carburizing processes for low pressure carburizing is done using diffusion simulation. To embed the precision of the calculations the influencing factors on the carbon transition and diffusion need to be known and modeled. To enhance the models, measurements on the carbon transition during LP-carburization were performed during a model low pressure carburization process using a special thermo balance. The carbon flow depending on temperature, gas type and atmosphere composition, steel grade, surface carbon content and conditions of carbide formation and dissolution were regarded during the experiments. The results were used in a finite differences simulation to model the carbon transition according to the carburizing atmosphere. The materials behavior was accounted using its chemical composition. The simulation was set up as an independent application and the results of the different models used to consider the materials behavior and carbon transfer were evaluated. |
