Abstract:
The metabolic regulation of the aromatic-compounds degrading sulfate-reducing bacteria Desulfobacula toluolica Tol2 in response to the availability and adaptation to aromatic growth substrates (toluene, phenylacetate, p-cresol, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, p-hydroxybenzoate and benzoate) was studied by a combined physiological/proteomic approach. Also, regulation of key subunits of dissimilatory sulfate reduction pathway (adenosine-5'-phosphosulfate reductase subunit A, dissimilatory sulfite reductase subunit A and dissimilatory sulfite reductase subunit B) was studied under different electron-acceptor conditions (growth with sulfate, sulfite, thiosulfate or a mixture of sulfate, sulfite and thiosulfate) utilizing benzoate as aromatic growth substrate.
