Other Titles: | Influence of depressive symptoms on fibromyalgia - a meta analysis | Authors: | Lange, Meike | Supervisor: | Petermann, Franz | 1. Expert: | Petermann, Ulrike | Experts: | de Vries, Ulrike | Abstract: | Fibromyalgia poses a challenge for therapy. Many studies recommend subgrouping based on comorbid symptoms as depression or anxiety. The aim of this cumulative dissertation was to analyze how depressive symptoms affect physical and psychological impairment, coping with disease and rehabilitation outcome among patients with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia patients with depressive symptoms show more sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, loss of physical function level and low quality of life. Furthermore, comorbid depression has a negative impact on coping with disease. Patients with fibromyalgia and comorbid depression show poorer outcomes of multimodal rehabilitation than fibromyalgia patients without depression. For this reason a different treatment plan for fibromyalgia patients with and without depression is recommended. |
