The doctoral thesis offers an empirical in-depth investigation of European identity in Latvia by mapping out its place among other identities in the context of national and personal historical experiences. In particular, it explores the relationships between European identity and Latvian national identity, majority and minority group ethnic and linguistic identities, as well as Soviet identity. The study combines qualitative and quantitative sources in a mixed methods study that compares three generations, various ethnic and linguistic groups, as well as different regions of Latvia.
