After the dawn of the bancassurance concept in the 1980`s, the recent merger and aquisition wave has demonstrated that partnerships between banks and insurance houses are back in fashion. The purpose of the first part of the thesis is to illustrate the main drivers behind this renaissance, the status quo of the concept in Europe and its success stories. The second part of the thesis informs about ways in which successful bancassurance partnerships can be set up. The various methods in use today concerning product range, contractual relationships and distribution channels are discussed with reference to 5 European case studies.
