Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Introduction to the Special Issue on ‘Textures of Diaspora and (Post-)Digitality: A Cultural Studies Approach’This editorial of the Special Issue ‘Textures of Diaspora and (Post-)Digitality: A Cultural Studies Approach’ explores the digital agency of diasporic communities by showing how cultural and literary studies genuinely contribute to scholarly debates and our understanding of digital diasporas. It explores the implications of the digital in a (post-)digital age, one in which the notion of diaspora is used to refer to actual ethnic, religious communities and to collectives that do not necessarily share any common origin or history but articulate their communality through a ‘diaspora rhetoric’. It uses an approach that concentrates on the medial, cultural and aesthetic dimensions of diasporic (self-)representations, positionings and practices in cyberspace. It brings into focus the ‘textures’ of these communities and points to the need to decode diasporic imageries and the many meanings of those portrayals. It studies the textual and visual language with which diasporic communities are imagined in the digital space.Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:3194 207 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:86Heft:265 85 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Wissenschaftlicher Artikel77 78 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Voices From the Black Diaspora in Spain: On Transcultural Spaces and Afrospanish Identity Constructions in PoetryMy essay will examine poems by different Afro-Spanish authors such as Francisco Zamora Loboch, Justo Bolekia Boleká (both Equatorial Guinea), Agnès Agboton (Benin), Abdoulaye Bilal Traoré (Senegal), Michel Feugain (Cameroon) among others. These writers from different cultural backgrounds share the experience of migrating to the Iberian peninsula and having adopted Spanish as the language of their literary production. Their writings deal with questions of belonging and otherness in Spanish society and revolve around the condition of the Afro-Spanish subject. With a close reading of selected poems I will discuss in what way these authors explore both the Afro-Spanish subject’s exposure to marginalization and Othering and their feelings of (non-)belonging. Furthermore, I will examine to what extent they juxtapose selfarticulations of Afro-Spanish identity opening up liminal spaces that unsettle binaries, give rise to continuous transcultural movements and allow for moments of cultural difference (H. K. Bhabha). The aim of this essay is to identify Afro-Spanish identity constructions in these poems as a complex and continuous process of re/positioning (S. Hall) that cannot be narrowed down to an idealistic vision of transcultural existence dissolving any kind of polarities but that is consistently troubled by glimpses of alienation and uprootedness.Wissenschaftlicher Artikel130 362 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, “To Be Black in a ‘White’ Country” - On the Ambivalence of the Diasporic Experience in César A. Mba Abogo's El porteador de Marlow. Canción negra sin color (2007)This essay focuses on the ambivalence of the diasporic experience of the Black subject in Equatoguinean writer César A. Mba Abogo's collection of short stories and poems El porteador de Marlow. Canción negra sin color (2007). It discusses how these texts reflect the experience of alienness and exclusion lived by the Black diasporic subject in a "white" European society, unsilencing a marginalized perspective on African migration to and presence in Europe. Moreover, the essay proposes a reading of the extensive network of references to Black history, knowledge systems, and intertexts evoked throughout the collection as offering a way to transcend the Black diasporic subject's isolation and to connect to a shared and ongoing history of oppression, displacement, and marginalization on the one hand but of agency, resistance, and self-empowerment on the other.Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:48Heft:383 141 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Re-Thinking the Haitian Other ‘in Relation’ as ‘Prochain’: A Reading of Édouard Glissant and Lyonel TrouillotHaitian writer Lyonel Trouillot criticizes the long tradition of neverending prejudices and sterotypes about Haiti. In Western discourse the country is still frequently represented as the "barbaric" antipole of modernity, condemned to an endless story of chaos and violence. From this notion arises the perpetuity of a (neo)colonial construction of the Haitian Other in strict opposition to a Western identity, a construction that has left its mark on Haiti's reputation in the global opinion until the present.Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:19Heft:177 141 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Migratory Movements in Life Stories and Literary Writing: A Conversation with Joaquín Mbomío Bacheng on Equatoguinean Literature and Afro-Diasporic Communities in EuropeIn this interview, Equatoguinean writer Joaquín Mbomío Bacheng talks about his own experience of migrating to and living in Europe, an experience likewise echoed in his literary writing. in this context, the author not only tackles topics such as the discrimination and stereotyping of African immigrants, but also broaches the issue of enriching cultural encounters experienced by the Afro-diasporic subject. Pointing out the essential role Afro-diasporic communities could assume as mediators between European societies and African cultures, Mbomío Bacheng pleads for an open and continuing dialogue of cultures that promotes mutual respect and transcultural dynamics from which everyone might benefit. Moreover, by illustrating the particular colonial and postcolonial relation of Equatorial Guinea to Spain, he explains the originality of Equatoguinean literature, which still tends to be rather invisible in both Spain and Equatorial Guinea.Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:48Heft:397 101
