    Creative predisposition and creative activity in the context of brain functional asymmetry

    Dissertation examines the neuronal nature of the creative abilities and social-cultural conditions for creativity. The cortex is considered as neuronal analyzer of space- and time-frequencies. It leads to the general concept of brain functional asymmetry: the left hemisphere (LH) works as the local and the right hemisphere (RH) as the global Fourier-filter. Corresponding concept of the muscular and neuronal Alpha-modules allows unified Fourier-description for perception / action (visual recognition, art aesthetics, etc.) and clarifies the functional role of EEG rhythms. Creative ability is regarded as result of the "functional mixing" in the RH, caused biologically - by the prenatal testosterone, with resulting left-handedness, ambidexterity, etc., or caused culturally - by the RH- Chinese writing, etc.). Additional RH-speech-center in the extended RH-temporal plana seems to be decisive for the creative geniality. This leads to the most creative adult/children dialogic mind (Da Vinci, Goethe, Mozart, Einstein, Sacharov, etc.) Fostering creativity considered being as the most important educational task of the coming global innovative culture.

    28 male pathological gamblers were compared to 28 controls concerning self-concept, emotionality (anger, anxiety, depression), affect regulation (alexithymia, fear/ avoidance of emotions) and achsis-I-comorbidity. Significant differences between groups concerning all variables could be found. Furthermore highly significant correlations between negative self-concept, negative affect as well as avoidance of emotions were investigated within the group of patholodical gamblers.Data served to develop a vicious-circle-model of pathological gambling. Taken into consideration atiological models of addiction as well as latest results concerning substance-related addictions the results of the present study confirm the assumption that pathological gambling is an substance-independent addiction disorder or a pychological dependency.Implications for therapy are discussed.
