Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:40209 142 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:40268 302 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:40215 153 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Geochemistry of Champagne Hot Springs shallow hydrothermal vent field and associated sediments, Dominica, Lesser AntillesThe Champagne Hot Springs (CHS) shallow submarine hydrothermal system is located along the submerged flank of the Plat Pays volcanic system on the southwest section of the island of Dominica, Lesser Antilles. We have conducted a detailed geochemical study of the hydrothermal system, with the objectives to investigate the source of the hydrothermal fluids and gases, their effect on sediment and precipitate chemistry, as well as comparing the submarine vent chemistry with nearby on-land hydrothermal vents. Finally, we compare our findings to previous preliminary data from CHS, and compare sediment chemistry to that of average Caribbean sediments. We also report on a newly discovered area of submarine hydrothermal venting, located approximately 40 m to the north of CHS. This area consists of hydrothermally altered areas of sand that contain abundant coatings of hydrous ferric oxides (HFO) on sediment grains. Geochemical and mineralogical analyses of vent waters, pore waters, gases, sediments and precipitates reveal that the vent fluids consist of a mixture of entrained seawater and meteorically derived hydrothermal fluid in varying proportions. Vent fluids are depleted in Br−, SO42−, Cl−, Na+, K+, and Sr2+ relative to ambient seawater. These species are all positively correlated with Mg2+, which is also depleted relative to seawater. Boron, Fe, As, Sb, Mn, Si and Li are all enriched relative to ambient seawater. Pore waters in the hydrothermally altered sand patches have essentially the same chemistry. Mixing between Fe2+ rich vent fluids and seawater causes rapid oxidation of Fe2+ to insoluble Fe3+ and leads to precipitation of HFO at the vent site and subsequent formation of hydrothermally altered sand patches. The elevated concentrations of As and Sb in the precipitates and sediments relative to average Caribbean seafloor sediments reflect adsorption by HFO. Gas samples from the vent site are typical arc-type gases and have both meteoric and magmatic signatures.Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:224Heft:1-361 53 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Wissenschaftlicher ArtikelBand:40285 285 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Postfunctionalism reversed: solidarity and rebordering during the COVID-19 pandemicPostfunctionalism posits a tradeoff between the functional scale of governance and the territorial scope of community: functional scale is large and transnational for efficiency reasons; community is small-scale and (sub-)national for reasons of social trust and collective identification. COVID-19 has turned this tradeoff upside down: it has shrunk functional scale to the (sub-)national level in the name of security, while lifting expectations of community to the grand transnational scale in the name of solidarity. This reversal of scales has resulted in a rapid rebordering of the Single Market and the Schengen area on the one hand, and a significant debordering of fiscal risk and burden sharing on the other. We reconstruct the evolution of this double-movement from January to August 2020, contrast it to historical trends in the scale-community tradeoff of European integration, and discuss implications for postfunctionalist theory.Wissenschaftlicher Artikel118 295 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, The Electroweak Interaction Explained by and Derived from Gravity and RelativityElectromagnetic interactions are omnipresent in everyday life. These are part of the electroweak interactions, including the Higgs mechanism. However, the nature and microscopic structure thereof were a mystery. That mystery is solved in this book. We derive the observed charges and masses of the electroweak interaction from the equivalence principles, gravity and relativity, by analyzing the vacuum. We derive and clarify the origin of electroweak interactions: – Vacuum forming since the Big Bang constitutes space, time and cosmic phase transitions with a large scale energy spectrum. – That spectrum causes electroweak charges and masses. – Thereby, two-dimensional charge space forms. – Hereby, the electric charge, the weak angle, a non-electric charge, a hypercharge, an isospin charge and isospin form. – Electroweak masses originate from transitions at the large scale spectrum. Using the local principles of the formation of vacuum, we derive general relativity and results beyond: the density of vacuum, quantum physics, cosmic phase transitions as well as the electroweak interactions, charges and masses. Our results are in precise accordance with observation, whereby we do not execute any fit. Invited to discover the nature of electromagnetic and weak interactions are classes from grade 10 or higher, courses, research clubs, enthusiasts, observers, experimentalists, mathematicians, natural scientists, researchers …BuchBand:8156 534 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item-typ:Veröffentlichung, Translating Global Values into National Contexts: The Rise of Environmentalism in South KoreaSince the 1970s, the global rise of environmentalism has attracted growing attention from the social sciences. Although most studies acknowledge the lack of a direct link between environmental activism and environmental policy changes, grassroots activists, social movements and NGOs are widely considered to have made a significant contribution to the global spread of environmentalism. Recently, this standard account has been strongly challenged by neoinstitutionalist approaches. In lieu of elevating the role of local activists, they explain the global rise of environmentalism as a top-down process by stressing the importance of the so-called ‘world environmental regime’. In an attempt to bridge this conceptual divide, the present article examines the interaction between local/national activists and the world environmental regime in the case of South Korea. Based on a quantitative and qualitative analysis of statements, network data and surveys, this study describes the social mechanism driving the rise of environmentalism and demonstrates that its accession was equally shaped by the expansion of the world environmental regime, national configurations of power and the cultural creativity of environmental activists.Wissenschaftlicher Artikel168 118
